Knowing Your Purpose and Growing Financial Wealth (Module 1)

Module 1: Knowing Your Purpose

Conceptual Clarification:

Purpose: Why do I exist? Does my existence have any meaning? Can I know why I exist or was created? What meaning does my life currently has?

Growing Wealth: There are different kinds of wealth – (a) Physical wealth, (b) Spiritual wealth, (c) Social wealth, (d) Time wealth, (e) Aura wealth, (f) Financial wealth. We shall concentrate on financial wealth in this course/training.

(A) Statistics: Top 5% of very successful people are very clear of what their purpose is and what they want to accomplish with their lives. About 80% of people are purposeless, that is, not purpose driven. They are lazy and surrounded by many lazy people who they attract (The Law of Attraction), from among whom they marry, and give birth to children who think like them.

Approaches to Knowing Your Purpose:

(B) Religious Approach: God creates for a purpose as can be discerned from creation. Humans were also created in God’s own image and likeness for a purpose. This purpose can be discerned by (a) studying the Sacred Books, (b) Consulting the gods through the men and women of God or the gods. Have you prayerfully discerned what you think your purpose is?

(C) A Cultural Approach:  Our birth is not by accident. So also is our family names, native names, and the positions we occupy in the family and age group. Can you discern your purpose from your family name? Is your position in the family of any significance? Does your birth say anything to your parents or lineage?

(D) Natural Law/Scientific Ethics Approach (Evolution Theory): Your purpose can be discerned naturally because you are made up of atoms and completely defined by the laws of nature and evolution. Are you a programmed or determined being? If yes! Are you currently living your life as programmed by nature or evolution?

(E) A Positivist Approach (A. J. Ayer): This is an atheistic approach to knowing one’s purpose. One’s purpose is as determined by the individual’s goals or ends consciously or unconsciously pursued.

* Some few people have successfully channelled all their activities into one over-riding purpose to gain success and great achievement.

*  Some people pursue goals that they couldn’t harmonize to grow wealth and success. * Life has different meaning for different people, but purposes are not of equal value. Thus, there is need to help people make better choices as to how they ought to live according to their purpose in life (a) according to their generation, and (b) according to what is logically consistent and tested on practical grounds.
