He recommends chastisement (suffering) in learning virtue, and discipline and training for children. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-fc4f8066-7fff-283a-cb\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>F<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>eral Children \/ \u2018wolf children\u2019:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">These are children who were \u201cabandoned and forced to live among animals outside of human society\u201d. (Samuel Koenig, 1957)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The behavior of the \u2018wolf children,\u2019 Kamala and Amara, when they were discovered in India, was found to resemble that of animals rather than of human beings. They could not speak, nor show human emotions; they walked in an animal-like manner on all four limbs, ate raw meat, and in general displayed habits characteristics of jungle animals. Two isolated American children, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Anna <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">and <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Isabelle<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">, were . . . lacking in some of the skills associated with human beings, such as the ability to talk, feed themselves, or follow simple directions. Even if, as some suspect, these children, . . . , were abnormal in mentality, their behavior was such as to leave little doubt that without contact within a human group man can hardly develop those characteristics which we call human, and that life in a group is indispensable for the human being.\u201d (Samuel Koenig, 1957)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-134b2cb4-7fff-cf28-2a\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Social Life in Lower Animals: <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ants, Bees, Wasps, and Birds display some orderliness, cooperation, planning, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Social Life among Apes (Higher Animals):<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Gorillas, Orangutan, and Chimpanzee display some \u201clove and hatred, sympathy and empathy, friendship and animosity, genuine attachment, mourning over the loss of a friend, happiness and despair, a developed sense of belonging, and group solidarity.\u201d (Samuel Koenig, 1957)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Note: <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The social life of animals, including apes, are \u201cbased almost entirely upon instinct, or reflex behavior, which shows practically no variation from generation to generation.\u201d (Samuel Koenig, 1957) Thus they lack <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>progress<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">but have the advantages of social\/ communal life.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Emile Durkheim <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">(French Sociologist) and others: \u201cthe social group, society, precedes the individual, in the sense that the human being is a product of social interaction.\u201d (Samuel Koenig, 1957)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"center\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-549960aa-7fff-7778-9c\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: background of a people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Hence, the same experience in two different cultures are ordered and categorized differently.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>EXAMPLES:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Courtship<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">: In most indigenous cultures in Africa, especially in Nigeria, no sex before marriage. This seems to be different among the Ashantis of Ghana (Wiredu).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-3fc9b939-7fff-8748-6e\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">2.<\/span><\/span><\/span><b> <\/b><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Children in Marriage:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> In Africa, Children in marriage belong to the husband who paid the bride price. In Europe, it belongs to the sperm donor.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">3. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Lineage<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">: In most cultures of the world lineage is patriarchal. Among the Ashantis of Ghana, lineage is matriarchal.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"center\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-d3ce1c2f-7fff-9218-73\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>RELIGION<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"docs-internal-guid-1f6ee19d-7fff-1883-14\"><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Religion is \u201cthe means by which God as spirit and man\u2019s essential self communicate.\u201d (Idowu, 1963, 50)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">There are many religions in the world: Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, African Indigenous Religion, Judaism, etc. In Nigeria, we have mostly African Indigenous Religions, Christianity, and Islam.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Essentially all Religions are based on LOVE <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">(although the understanding of this LOVE varies)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>AFRICAN INDIGENOUS RELIGION (AIR)<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #595959;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The oldest religion in Africa: The Supreme Being is worshipped via the gods or deities; Ancestors are revered and respected.
